Children's Book Collab with Deborah Kerbel

Children's book collab
with Deborah Kerbel
In the first semester of my final year of illustration studies, we were assigned to create a children's book with an established author. I was one of four people assigned to work with author Deborah Kerbel to adapt her unpublished story, A Child Like You.
We each had to create our own take of the story, based on the Dalai Lama,
while working with the author.
Having to research for this story was a delicate task. I had to make sure I respected a culture, religion, and story that was foreign to my own, while also not showing anything that overtly represents political powers in a children's book at the author's request.

Character design explorations
For the soldiers, I gave them a very sharp, triangular shape design to contrast with the rounded corners of the Dalai Lama's shape.
